Welcome, and Thank You!
Thank you for participating in this important testing session for Cayuga Community College’s Slate application system. Your feedback will play a critical role in improving the experience for prospective students.
Objective
Your task is to act as a fictional student (persona) and complete the application process using the provided details. We want to test:
Ease of use and clarity of the application.
The accuracy of data submission and backend functionality.
Error handling for incorrect or incomplete data.
Instructions
Before You Begin
Locate your Persona Card at your workstation. This card contains the details of the fictional student you will be testing as, including:
Name, address, and phone number.
Academic goals and intended major.
Background details such as citizenship status, prior education, and any test scores.
Take a moment to review the persona card. If you have any questions, raise your hand and a facilitator will assist you.
Step 1: Log In to the Test Environment
Open the browser on your computer and navigate to the Slate Test Application Portal: https://slate.cayuga-cc.edu/apply/
Use the provided test credentials (if required) to log in. These will be found on your Persona Card.
Step 2: Complete the Application
Begin the Application:
Follow the prompts on the application portal to start a new application.
Select the appropriate term and program of study based on your persona card.
Enter Information:
Fill out each section of the application using the details provided on your persona card.
Ensure that every field is completed accurately based on the persona’s information.
Test for Errors:
Make deliberate mistakes in one or two fields (e.g., invalid email, missing required field) to see how the system handles errors.
Record the error messages you receive and whether they were clear and helpful.
Submit the Application:
Once you have completed the application, double-check all entries.
Submit the application and wait for the confirmation screen.
Step 3: Record Your Feedback
After submitting, take a few minutes to fill out the Feedback Form (provided at your station or online).
Questions will include:Was the application easy to understand and navigate?
Were instructions and error messages clear?
Did you encounter any technical issues?
Any suggestions for improvement?
If anything was confusing or didn’t work as expected, write down the details.
Step 4: Inform the Facilitator
Once you’ve completed your feedback form, notify a facilitator.
They will verify that your application submission was received in the system and answer any additional questions.
Testing Scenarios to Keep in Mind
Personality Context: Stay in character as your assigned persona.
Use Error-Handling Tests: For example, leave a required field blank or input invalid data to test how the system responds.
Follow Completion Requirements: Ensure you submit the application successfully.
Important Notes

Support: Facilitators are available to assist with technical issues or answer questions throughout the session.
Timing: Each application should take approximately 20–30 minutes to complete, including feedback.
